Long turned parts

Essential for special geometric requirements – Long turning technology is used for turned parts where the length to be machined exceeds a certain dimension. We are able to machine turned parts up to 400 mm in length, with a maximum total component length of up to 1,500 mm. In the long turning range, our machines are equipped with integrated rear side machining, driven tools, and a Y-axis.

FAQ

What are CNC turned parts?
CNC turned parts are rotationally symmetric components manufactured by machining on CNC-controlled lathes. In this process, the workpiece rotates while stationary or driven cutting tools remove material. CNC control enables the economical production of complex geometries with tight tolerances and high repeatability.
Which materials are processed?

In turned parts manufacturing, commonly used materials include free‑cutting steels, stainless steels, aluminum, brass, and engineering plastics. The machinability, strength, and surface requirements of the material determine the selection of tools, cutting parameters, and the machining strategy.

Even if your project material is not listed here, please contact us—we will be happy to assess a cost‑effective and efficient solution for you.

When is sliding headstock turning used?

Sliding headstock turning is primarily used for components with a high length-to-diameter ratio. By guiding the material through a guide bushing, the workpiece is supported close to the machining point. This minimizes deflection and ensures high dimensional accuracy as well as excellent surface finish.

What are the advantages of CNC turning?
CNC turning enables the complete machining of complex turned parts in a single setup. By using driven tools as well as B-, C-, and Y-axes, additional milling, drilling, and threading operations can be integrated into the process. This reduces idle times, increases process reliability, and minimizes the need for rework.
From what quantities is manufacturing with STERO possible?
Manufacturing is, of course, particularly cost-effective for large-scale series production, as setup costs and programming efforts can be distributed across higher volumes. However, thanks to our powerful and versatile machine park and highly efficient processes, we can also offer attractive pricing and short lead times for batch sizes starting at around 500 units – delivered quickly, flexibly, and reliably.
What does the term “contract manufacturer” mean?
As a contract manufacturer, we are your reliable partner for the precise and cost-effective execution of production orders. We handle the manufacturing of your CNC turning and milling parts exactly according to your specifications—flexibly, efficiently, and in line with the highest quality standards. This allows you to fully focus on your core competencies while we ensure smooth, on-time production.
